Things heard in school

The second grade classroom is wonderful. Often students say something that make you laugh out loud. Here are some hilarious tidbits.

  • During Health class the teacher had given out papers to cut. Most of the students found a good pair of scissors except one who was roaming around the classroom. The teacher announced that everyone had 5 minutes. This child spoke up, "I have 10 because I have been roaming around looking for scissors."

  • End of the year review time is a good way to gauge learning. I asked, "On what holiday do we honor all working people?" I was expecting to hear, "Labor Day!" The answer I got, "Pay Day!"

  • I taught the students the game "Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?" and I found out soon enough how well the lesson was learned. A student was being disruptive, so I called out his name to reprimand him. He asked innocently, "Who me?" I replied shortly, "Yes! You!" "Couldn't be!, he replied. "Then who?" I demanded. "Maya!" he whispered with a grin.

  • Students were doing independent work when I heard one child say, "I'm from the HOOD!" Another child replied, "I'm from L'il RED Riding Hood!"
